This digitally re-mastered re-release of our Airport Action – Amsterdam video as Airports in the 90s – Amsterdam provides a great opportunity to see what Schiphol was like in 1995 . Don’t confuse it with the 2006 Airport Action – Amsterdam video; they are completely different.
Apart from a few remaining 707s, BAC 1-11s and a DC8, the big difference back then was the number of tri-jets in service, including some Tristars in Jordanian’s beautiful livery, as well as DC10s, MD11s and, on the shorter routes, Boeing 727s – including one of Air Alpha’s.
Freighters are always a big feature at Amsterdam and on this video there’s an extreme example; a Super Guppy Turbine operating for Airbus.
There’s plenty of big jet action filmed alongside various runways, as well as a good variety of short-haul traffic. Such is the pace of change in aviation that many of the aircraft seen are no longer operated by the same airlines today or have been scrapped. Some of the operators, like Affretair or Air Ostrava have also disappeared too.
Fortunately, all have been recorded on this fascinating Airports in the 90s – Amsterdam video.
